From the Richmond Times, 6/9/1901, p. 2, c. 3
Messrs. J. R. V. Daniel and John P. Reynolds, Jr., special commissioners, will, through John T. Goddin & Co., sell at auction to-morrow at 5:30 o’clock, the old historic Van Lew homestead, on Grace Street, between Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Streets, and the lots at Twenty-fifth and Grace Streets and at the corner of Twenty-fifth and Franklin Streets.
This property will be sold either as a whole or otherwise. The old homestead has much historic interest centered around it, and would make a beautiful location for a residence. The home is surrounded by spacious gardens and lawns. This sale is to be made in pursuance of a decree of the Chancery Court in order to close up the affairs of the estate.
