COMMISSIONERS’ AUCTION SALE OF THAT ATTRACTIVE, HISTORIC AND TRULY DESIRABLE PROPERTY KNOWN AS THE “VAN LEW HOMESTEAD,” WITH THE BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS ATTACHED, HAVING AN ENTIRE FRONTAGE ON SOUTH SIDE OF GRACE STREET BETWEEN TWENTY-THIRD AND TWENTY-FOURTH STREETS, AND EXTENDING THROUGH TO FRANKLIN STREETS; ALSO, A DESIRABLE LOT, SOUTHWEST CORNER OF GRACE AND TWENTY-FIFTH STREETS, AND LOT NORTHWEST CORNER FRANKLIN AND TWENTY-FIFTH STREETS. – In pursuance of a decree of the Chancery Court of the city of Richmond, in the case of “John J. Hall and als vs. John Van Lew and als,” entered on the 12th day of March, 1901, the undersigned, special commissioners, will sell, at public auction, on the premises, on

MONDAY, JUNE 10, 1901.

at 5:30 o’clock P. M., the property above referred to, the improvements consist of a large, handsome, solidly-built BRICK AND STUCCOED RESIDENCE, containing about 13 rooms; marble mantels on principal floors, wide halls and a spacious back portico, extending entire length of the residence, overlooking the ground, laid out with ornamental trees and shrubbery. Adjacent to and connected with the residence is a large two-story brick and stuccoed kitchen, containing six good-size rooms. The lot extends from Twenty-third to Twenty-fourth Street, and has a front on south side of Grace Street 264 feet and runs back between parallel lines a distance of 327 ½ feet to Franklin Street, upon which it has a like front. The property will be offered as a whole, or it may be, after reserving for the residence a sufficient quantity of ground, several beautiful lots fronting on Grace Street between the residence and Twenty-third Street will be sold. This property presents unusual attractions and advantages, located in a desirable neighborhood, within one square of two of our principal electric car lines, about ten minutes’ walk of Libby and Chimborazo Parks, and from its elevated position commands a fine view of upper and lower James River for miles. No better site could be obtained for residences or a home for a charitable institution.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER sale of the above we will sell that VALUABLE LOT at the southwest corner of Grace and Twenty-fifth Streets, fronting 30 feet on Grace Street and running back about 150 feet; also, the lot at northwest corner of Franklin and Twenty-fifth Streets, fronting 68 feet and running back about 150 feet. A plat of the property can be seen at office of auctioneers.

TERMS: One-fourth cash and the balance in six, twelve and eighteen months, taking from the purchaser notes for said deferred payments, with interest thereon from the day of sale added thereto, or all cash, if the purchaser shall so elect, and the title to be retained until all the purchase-money is paid and a conveyance ordered by the Court.
