Castle Thunder. - Some of the prisoners confined in Castle Thunder made an attempt to escape on Saturday night, and had succeeded in excavating the wall when the guard discovered and drove them back. There are stories in circulation, which we are inclined to discredit, of barbarous cruelties inflicted upon the inmates of the prison by the officers in command, and the subject is to be investigated by a committee of the House of Representatives.
