From the Richmond Commercial Bulletin, 8/8/1865, p. 3, c. 1
THE POST-OFFICE was re-opened on yesterday at its old location, the Custom House. – The arrangements are far more convenient, and the space more roomy than in the former contracted quarters. The delivery of gentlemen’s letters is divided into two parts, one clerk responding to demands from A to L, another taking the balance of the alphabet. A separate space is devoted to the delivery of ladies’ letters, another to the sale of stamps, and a third to advertised letters. The boxes number seventeen hundred and eighty-four, and conveniently and compactly arranged.
The location of the office is more central, and, for convenience and dispatch, the new arrangements are infinitely preferable to those of the late establishment.
