The Charlotte Observer, noting the action of our Legislature in voting $10,000 for the Stuart monument, says:
“Virginia runs to monuments. Having had men of whose records it is proud, it believes in perpetuating their memory in this visible and imperishable form. Its Capital City is dotted with such effigies. Would that there were more of such sentiment in North Carolina!”
