MISS VAN LEW’S CONDITION.
She Has Been Ill, But Was Somewhat Better Yesterday.

The condition of Miss Elizabeth L. Van Lew, who has been ill for several weeks, was reported as somewhat improved yesterday. Her niece, who resides with her on Church Hill, has been ill also.

Miss Van Lew’s niece from Philadelphia arrived on Saturday.

Dr. Stone has been attending the elder Miss Van Lew, and Dr. Corey is the physician to the niece.

Miss Van Lew was appointed postmaster of Richmond by President Grant. During the war she rendered great service to the Federal soldiers. She has annually, when paying her taxes, filed with the State Treasurer a protest against paying taxes without being allowed representation, or, in other words, without being permitted to vote.
