From the Richmond Times, 5/14/1893, p. 4, c. 3
The Chicago papers are very much alarmed lest the Southern people, in showing their love and reverence for their honored dead, on the occasion of the coming interment of President Davis, should revive the “perishing war feeling.” This comes with bad grace from Chicago, whose people have done all they could to keep war sentiment alive by purchasing Libby Prison, and trying to purchase the White House of the Confederacy for the purpose of re-erecting them in Chicago for public exhibition. It looks as if the papers of that city thought that it is all right for them to preserve memories of the war, but all wrong for the South to do so by appropriately honoring her own dead leaders.
