ATTEMPTED ESCAPE. – A prisoner, confined in the military jail at the corner of Sixth and Cary streets, made an attempt to regain his liberty on Monday night, but came near losing his life in the undertaking. By some means he had procured a rope, and having made it fast to an upper window, proceeded to let himself down, but just as he was starting, his hands slipped and he fell to the pavement. His injuries are very severe and may prove fatal. This man is imprisoned on the double charge of forgery and desertion.
