UNFORTUNATE AFFAIR. – One of the guards employed at the Louisiana Hospital, formerly Baptist College, Broad street, named Hugh McGinley, was before the Mayor yesterday, for feloniously shooting and causing the death of Pat Holmes, also a guard at the same place. No testimony was adduced to show that the act was done with malice aforethought, and the accused declared it was wholly the result of an accident, his gun having discharged its load while he was examining it in the presence of Holmes. The wounded man lingered an hour or two after receiving the ball in his breast. Neither of the parties were soldiers, and the result may be partly traced to their want of acquaintance with the weapons with which they were entrusted.
