Incident on the Cars. – Yesterday, shortly after the South-Side cars had left Lynchburg, an officer in charge of some prisoners bound for this city asked a dapper young gentleman aboard for “his papers.” The young man evinced some confusion in his manner and replied that he did not have any. He was thereupon asked what company and regiment he belonged to, and replied none. The officer then asked his name, when the party replied Lelia T. Smith. The young gentleman proved to be a woman dressed in boy’s clothing. Miss Smith said she came from Mercer county, Va. The reason for her eccentric conduct was not disclosed. She is young and pretty and “sweet sixteen.” She was carried to Castle Thunder on her arrival at Richmond and furnished with proper apparel. She will doubtless be sent home as soon as her friends can be heard from.
