From the Richmond Dispatch, 6/17/1862, p. 2, c. 3
Promoted. – We learn that Capt. G. W. Alexander, Assistant Provost Marshal, has been promoted to be Assistant Adjutant General to Brigadier General Winder. Capt. A. has suffered much in our cause, came to us with a musket on his shoulder, and has fought his way up to his present position. His companion, the gallant Zarvona, captured, like himself, in the second expedition, still remains a captive in a Northern dungeon. Some effort will no doubt soon be made to restore him to the service. We remember that Capt. A. brought the first captured Yankees – those taken on board the St. Nicholas – to Richmond, more than a year since.
