From the Richmond Examiner, 5/16/1864
THE HOSPITALS. - Persons visiting the hospitals are informed that they will not be admitted unless they have wounded friends or relatives there, or carry food or nourishment for the wounded. It has been found necessary to put this rule in force to prevent the crowding up of the hospitals with idle visitors, and afford the surgeons, nurses and assistants time and space wherein to work for the alleviation of the suffering. No idlers are wanted.
