1860-11-09, Richmond Dispatch; long and important article about Camp Lee - Col. Hardee has reviewed the troops, and gives lists of officers from different companies. First Regiment Virginia Volunteers will be there today.
1860-11-10, Richmond Dispatch; important description of review at Camp Lee; 1st VA Regiment parades, list given of companies participating. Hardee takes the review again.
1861 (ca.October), Joseph F. Powell file, M346, $58,883.80 paid for work done at Chimborazo: Summary of extremely important itemized invoice for construction of buildings that will become Chimborazo Hospital.
1861-03-25, Richmond Dispatch; The Public Guard have not yet moved from the Armory to “the brick row opposite the present quarters for their reception”
1861-04-27, Richmond Enquirer; list of troops at the new fair grounds (Camp Lee); Col. Gilham is in command, and VMI cadets present
1861-04-29, Richmond Dispatch; long article describing the “Hermitage Camp of Instruction” (Camp Lee) and praising the VMI cadets who have drilled the volunteers there.
1861-05-06, National Archives; T. P. Turner is detailed to the camps of instruction in Richmond
1861-05-22, Richmond Whig; Richmond Howitzers camped on Chimborazo hill, with new military road "leading from the plateau," along the declivity, to the encampment at Rocketts. Artillery posted atop the hill.
1861-05-30, Richmond Dispatch; great description of the arrival of President Jefferson Davis in Richmond and the celebration in the city as he is escorted to Spotswood Hotel; later he reviewed the troops at Camp Lee
