[Rules and Regulations, no date, for General Hospital # 11]

Genl Hospl No. 11

Asst Surgeon
will take charge of ward A and see that the nurses carry out strictly all orders given them.

Asst Surgeon
will take charge of ward B and see that the nurses carry out strictly all orders given them.

Act. Asst Surgeon
will take charge of ward D and see that the nurses carry out strictly all orders given them.

Act. Asst Surgeon
will take charge of ward C and see that the nurses carry out strictly all orders given them.

One Asst or Act Asst Surgeon will be officer of the day and adhere strictly to the rules governing the Hospital. One Asst or Act Asst Surgeon will remain in the Hospital at nights and perform such duties as any emergency arising may require and will be particularly required to see that each nights nurse shall be in place and perform his duties promptly & correctly. Special attention is directed to the following extract from the Regulations for the Medical Departments,

"The Assistants will fill up the diet table for the day and direct the administration of the prepared medicines. Assistants will obey the orders of their Senior Surgeons, see that subordinate officers do their duty and aid in enforcing the Regulations of the Hospital."

Regulations

1st Scrupulous cleanliness must be rigidly maintained. No useless extra clothing will be allowed to encumber the bunks.

2nd Loud walking & talking quarreling & cursing are positively forbidden.

3 The bedsteads and bedding & sink(?) furniture of every description will be closely inspected each day and kept clean and a change ordered whenever deemed necessary.

4 Nurses assigned to special wards will not be interrupted to perform duties in other wards.

5th Breakfast will be furnished at 7½ o'clock AM, Dinner at 2 o'clock PM, & supper bread & coffee with milk if obtainable at 6½ o'clock PM until further order to the contrary.

6 Particular attention will be paid to a proper economy of Gas or other lights.

7th The Asst & Act Asst Surgeons will designate to the Steward such men as can be moved to the Bath Room and under the superintendence of the latter said men will be properly bathed.

8 Visitors to their friends will be allowed entrance from 11 to ¼ before 2 o'clock PM. Not more than 12 visitors can be in Hospital at one time.

9th Not more than six patients from each ward will be allowed papers to walk in the city and said passes will be good for only 3 hours.

10th Ladies bringing clothing linen bandages lint or edibles will be allowed admittance to Mrs. Grenmill['s](?) quarters at all times. The latter will receive all such contributions and distribute them properly & without personal favor.

11th The apothecary will keep his room in strictly good order and see that all prescription bottles and pill boxes are regularly returned and neither he or a steward will give out brandy, whiskey or wines without order of Asst Surgeons or Surgeon in Charge.
