HOUSE RENT. – Among the financial complications growing our of the substitution of the Federal currency for Confederate scrip, now worthless, is house rent, which was raised to an enormous figure in Confederate currency. Landlords now demand that payments shall be made in Federal currency in the proportion that Confederate notes bore to greenbacks just before the Union occupation of the city. This would make rent still disproportionately high, and the people are absolutely unable to meet the demands of the grasping landlords. Some military regulation of the subject would subserve the citizens; and equalize the burdens which rest upon the people of this community.
