General Harris C. Hobart, who has resigned from the Milwaukee public library board after a service of twenty-five years, was one of the Union prisoners who tunneled their way out of Libby Prison, at Richmond, during the Civil War. General Hobart is now in his eighty-ninth year. He has twice been the Democratic candidate for the Governorship of Wisconsin – in 1859 and 1865.
