ESCAPED. - We were called upon yesterday by Captain Sidney S. Grovnor, of the United States Secret Service, and John Hancock, both lately held as prisoners in Castle Thunder by the Confederate authorities, upon the charge of being Union spies. In the height of the evacuation they were brought out with other prisoners to be marched off, but on their way through the city their guard stopped to drink some whisky running in the gutters, its destruction then going on. This opportunity the captives embraced to escape, and they remained concealed until the advance of the Union forces entered the city. Hancock was confined in a dungeon, and his life was in jeopardy.
William Lohman, charged with treason to the Confederate Government; William White, similarly charged, and Lieut. Church, charged with recruiting for the Union army within the enemy's lines, also escaped, and several others. They are now in the city.
