PROVOST MARSHAL OF RICHMOND. - Major Elias Griswold was on Tuesday relieved from duty as Provost Marshal of Richmond. He is to sent to Americus, Georgia, to take charge of the prison at that place. A petition was being circulated for signatures yesterday requesting the Secretary of War to retain Major Griswold in the Provost Marshalship here. Who signed the petition, or what was its fate, we did not learn. Major J. [I. -ed] H. Carrington has been appointed to succeed Major Griswold, and is now Provost Marshal of Richmond.
