Escape of Yankee Officers from the Libby Prison. – On Tuesday night, one hundred and nine of the Yankee commissioned officers confined in the Libby Prison effected their escape. They had made a tunnel extending from the basement of the hospital ward to a vacant lot on 21st street south of Cary, a distance of sixty feet, and through this hole they crawled from their prison-house into the open air unobserved by any one. Among those who thus escaped is the notorious Col. Streight. As soon as Gen. Winder was appraised of the flight of the prisoners, he caused the guards to be arrested, but upon investigation were discharged and exonerated from all blame. Only one of the officers has been recaptured thus far.
