ALARM OF FIRE. - Between 12 and 1 o'clock yesterday, a vast and dense column of smoke being seen to rise over Church Hill in the direction of Chimborazo hospital, the report was immediately circulated that the institution was on fire. The bells rang and the Fire Brigade ran, when it was discovered that the smoke proceeded from a fire in the country, far beyond the city limits. It was subsequently ascertained that the woods on the north side of the Charles City road, about three and a half miles below the city, just in rear of the left of our military lines, had caught or been set on fire and were burning at a fearful rate.
