From the Richmond Enquirer, 10/21/1851
Distressing Event.
About 3 P. M. yesterday, we are pained to announce, John Ender, Esq., one of our oldest and most venerable citizens, fell to the ground from the breaking of a ladder raised against one of his new warehouses on the Dock. He fell some twenty feet, his head striking the ground, and, his skull being fractured, died in about ten minutes. He was universally respected and his melancholy death is deeply regretted.
