From the Richmond Enquirer, 6/12/1863
A MIXED POPULATION. – There are at present about six hundred prisoners at Castle Thunder, two hundred of whom are desperate characters, two hundred disloyal men from various parts of the State, including North Carolina "buffaloes" and runaway negroes; one hundred and thirty Confederate soldiers under sentence of court martial; and the rest deserters, stragglers, &c. Some eight or ten disloyal Tennesseans arrived on yesterday, and thirty odd stragglers were sent to their regiments. Castle Thunder and its environs have been much improved within the past few days, by additions and renovations, and now assumes a comfortable as well as a commodious appearance.
