From the Richmond Enquirer, 7/5/1862, p. 2, c. 4

FOUND DROWNED. – The body of a stranger apparently twenty-five years of age, tall, and having long whiskers of a reddish hue, was found in the canal, opposite the Tredegar Works, at an early hour yesterday morning. Being completely denuded of his apparel, which was found upon the canal bank, it was supposed that he had gone into the canal to bathe, and, being seized with cramp, was drowned. Coroner Sanxay viewed the body on yesterday. The deceased was unknown to any person living in the neighborhood. His remains were ordered to be buried in the usual place devoted to strangers found dead.
