From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/10/1864, p.1, c. 6
An Unwelcomed Present. – About eight o’clock last night an infant, apparently about four weeks old, was deposited in the front porch of Mr. Thomas S. Riddick’s residence, on Grace street, between Eighteenth and Nineteenth. The little thing was neatly dressed and when discovered it was wide awake and seemed perfectly satisfied with the disposition which had been made of it. No clue could be gotten to the heartless mother.
As a similar article has, within the past three weeks, been introduced into Mr. Riddick’s family, which, by law, he is bound to provide for, the donor of the little stranger, which has just been so summarily committed to his care, is respectfully requested to call for it, or make other arrangements for its future welfare.
