From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/22/1900, p. 2, c. 3
Miss Elizabeth Van Lew’s condition was quite serious yesterday morning, when she had a sinking spell of several hours’ duration. She rallied in the afternoon, however, and was able to sit out on the porch and talk with neighbors, who called in in the evening. The heat of the past few days has caused the venerable patient added suffering.
…Dr. Hunter McGuire did not pass a very comfortable day yesterday, on account of the debilitating effects of the weather, principally.
