Miss Van Lew Protests.
Miss Van Lew, ex-postmistress of the city of Richmond, and an ardent and influential Republican, has entered her “solemn protest” against the payment of taxes. Treasurer Phillips received the following communication from Miss Van Lew yesterday:
“To C. H. Phillips, Treasurer City of Richmond:
“I herewith enter my solemn protest against the payment of taxes without representation. I ask that this be recorded.
