From the Richmond Dispatch, 4/23/1863, p. 1, c. 5
Garrotters are again at work in this city, and persons should be on their guard. Yesterday morning a well known gentleman in this city arrived here on the Danville train about daybreak, and carpetbag in hand, started for his residence on Shockoe Hill. On arriving at the corner of 9th and Marshall streets, he was set upon by three ruffians, who, after choking him till he was insensible, robbed him of his valise, pocket book, and other articles.
