The Markets. – The city markets have been for several days past extremely destitute of all kinds of supplies which the people have usually been in the habit of obtaining from that source. Yesterday some little improvement was noticable in the quantity and quality of the beef for sale, though a number of the butchers are still compelled to keep their stalls closed because of the impossibility of getting cattle. With the disappearance of the mud, which if the present weather continues we may reasonably expect in a few days, not only the stock but the vegetable market will be abundantly supplied. All kinds of meat retails at $1 per pound now. Last night there were unusually large number of country carts at the Old Market, showing that the denizens of the rural districts are ready to visit the city if the roads will allow.
