From the Richmond Dispatch, 2/25/1863, p. 1, c. 5
Called For. – A few weeks since a call was made by the Government on the citizens of Richmond for five hundred and thirty able-bodied male negroes. The Aldermen’s Hustings Court was summoned to assess the number that should be furnished by such slaveholders as should come under the operation of the law, but they never met, and the Governor, after being notified of the fact, did not order a new session of the Court for the purpose of making the necessary assessment. The work is yet to be done. The levy on Henrico county for 350 slaves was promptly responded to by the county justices, and the negroes are to be delivered to the Government agents today at the Court House.
