New Boats – The canal boat builders have availed themselves of the privilege granted them by Hon. G. W. Randolph, former Secretary of War, and have constructed a number of craft suitable for canal navigation. The majority of those yet put on are intended solely for freight, and are open save at the two ends, one of which is enclosed for the use of the navigators, and the other housed in to protect the motive power of the boat, consisting generally of two stout males. Several of the new boats made their appearance in the basin yesterday.
