From the Richmond Dispatch, 7/4/1862, p. 2, c. 2
Neglect of the dead is sometimes unavoidable in these times, but we can see no reason under any possible conjunction of circumstances to allow the body of one of our soldiers to lay for two days on the platform of the York River Railroad Depot without the slightest effort being made for its interment. A blanket and an open platform is not exactly the sort of treatment he should receive. The body of the soldier above alluded to was on the platform Wednesday evening, and had been there for two previous days.
