From the Richmond Dispatch, 6/12/1862, p. 2, c. 4
The Capitol Square is now clothed with almost tropical verdure, the heavy foliage of the fine shade trees forming an agreeable contrast to the heavy grassy fringe that covers "mother earth beneath." The Square is much resorted to by all classes, and is a most agreeable spot on which to while away the prosy hours of the long summer evenings.
