Medical Director's Office,
Richmond, Va. November 26th 1863

Sir;

             The Louisiana Hospital being closed, Mrs. Sarah Fowler, Matron of that institution, is thrown out of employment. She is very competent, a refugee from New Orleans, and a lady in whom the President takes great interest on account of her self-sacrificing patriotism in being one of the first to register her name as an enemy of the U. S. and subject herself to exile & confiscation. If possible to give her a position in the Hospital under you charge, you will oblige me by doing so.

Very Respectfully
    Yr Obt Servt
        Wm. A. Carrington
            Medical Director
