Medical Director's Office, April 9th 1864

Sir:

In response to your enquiry as to changes at Chimborazo Hospl, I would respectfully call your attention to the enclosed copies of two communications to the Surg in Chg which embody probably the only directions given for changes in that Hospl & that I am aware of. No orders have been received by me in regard to these changes.

I was requested to call at Gen. Bragg's Head Quarters, and my attention was called verbally to many facts observed by his staff in closely inspecting the various Hospls, - among which were – the proportion of attendants to patients & the scattered condition of the sick & wounded, in small bodies in various Hospls & divisions of Hospls, as calculated to cause unnecessary expense & waste in labor & commissary, Qr. Master & Med. Supplies, concurring in which I ordered those changes in this, as I had done in other Hospls previously.

I was also requested by Gen. Winder to return to him as many of the detailed soldiers as possible for provost duty in the city, which I have been enabled to do by closing Hospls & divisions of Hospls.

Very Respy &c.
Wm. A. Carrington
Med. Director

Surg. Genl S. P. Moore, Richmond
