Chief Surgeon’s Office
Genl Hospital Camp Winder
Oct 28th 1862

Sir

I have the honor to report that there is a general complaint among the Laundresses of this Hospital, and that they threaten to quit, because of an inability to support themselves at their present compensation per Month which is not sufficient to purchase them a pair of shoes.

In view of the increased prices of everything, I respectfully request that authority be granted to pay Laundresses Eighteen (18) Dollars per Month and that it be allowed in accordance with provisions of late Act of Congress (known as the Hospital Bill) to pay one Wardmaster for every one hundred & twenty (120) patients Thirty Dollars per month, & one chief Matron of Laundry one Chief Matron of Pantry & Kitchen Forty Dollars per month for each separate Division of this Hospital.
