From the Native Virginian (Orange Court House, Va.), 3/26/1869, p. 2, c. 3
It is reported that the influence lately exerted by the Committee of nine is beginning to manifest itself, and that the appointment of Gen. Butler as chairman of the Reconstruction Committee, the refusal to remove disabilities from any one in the State, the expulsion from office of all who sympathize with the people among whom they live, and the appointment of Miss Van Lew as Postmistress of Richmond, are but preliminary advances to the full development of the eminent success of the policy of that committee. – Alexandria Gazette
