Attempted Escape From Prison. – On Saturday night, five prisoners confined in Castle Thunder, headed by a deserter named Robert Burch, attempted to escape by eluding the vigilance of the guard. After having cut their way through the rear wall of the prison, they made their appearance in the alley, but were promptly halted by the sentinel, who succeeded in alarming the sergeant of the guard and his posse in time to catch all of them. By a new arrangement of the guard Bossieux’s men had been removed from the barracks in rear of the prison, and the would be runaways hoped to be aided by the circumstance. The vigilance of the sentinel frustrated their intention.
