From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/12/1862, p. 2, c. 6

FIFTY DOLLARS REWARD – For the arrest of the thief who stole my MARE on the 7th of August. Said mare was tied to the railing on 9th street, in front of the War Department. The mare is of medium size, light bay, long mane and tail and rather large head. She had on an English saddle and saddle cloth, with military bridle.
