The State of Alabama has a lot of "good men and true" on the soil of Old Virginia at this time, the 14th Regiment, commanded by Col. Cantee. More hearty and robust men we have seldom seen. The regiment is encamped some distance beyond Bloody Run gully. Their dress parades occur on the level ground just above the gully.

The fine regiment of Louisiana soldiers called the "Polish Brigade," is encamped in the grove bordering on Griffin Spring. Visitors will find many native Virginians amongst the officers and soldiers.
