SQUELCHED. – By reference to our editorial columns, it will be seen that the effort to remove Miss Van Lew from the postoffice has been effectually squelched. This will be a stumper to those who, not satisfied with good places, want everything belonging to their neighbors. Had the most formidable movement succeeded, we doubt if it would have given as much satisfaction as the retention of Miss Van Lew. In future, aspirants for Miss Van Lew’s place had as well understand that the postoffice is hers to command during good behavior, or as long as Mr. Grant retains power.
