Sir:
Surgeon Spence has been absent (sick) from his post now sixteen days, and I see no prospect of his being able for duty for sometime. The senior assistant in his Division is sick also. Surgeon Wilkins is absent without leave, and the senior assistant in his Division is sick. This throws all the business of both divisions on me, and I have worked and borne patiently, hoping that these gentlemen would be able to attend to their duties, each day as it would come around but being disappointed, I find that I am overtaxing my strength and I therefore respectfully ask you to send me two Division Surgeons who can attend to the duties of the position, without detriment to their health. I would like for them to be sent immediately if possible.
Very Respectfully,
Your Obt Svt,
T. M. Palmer
