From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/1/1864, p.1, c 5
The Governor’s decision upon the application for the pardon of Joe, slave of Mrs. Fauntleroy, charged with burglarously entering the house of John D. Harvey, and stealing a lot of lard, and who was sentenced to transportation, was adverse to the prayer of the petitioners, instead of the reverse, as stated on Saturday. His refusal to grant a pardon was based upon the ground of an indisposition to interfere with the decisions of a Court, unless material facts should be developed subsequent to the trial and conviction of parties which would throw a doubt upon their guilt.
