Court proceedings. – Mayor’s court, Thursday, January 15th – John Riley, charged with getting into the City Railway car while drunk, and smashing up a window, was required to give security for his good behavior.

Thomas, slave of Mary Fox, was committed for trial for steaming $60 in notes, the property of Betle-Morris.

Augustus Cady was examined and sent on to the Hustings Court on a charge preferred by Malinda Summers, that he had stolen from her a gold watch and chain, worth $2. He was allowed to give $100 bail for his appearance.

Taylor, slave of Wm. Lumpkin, was ordered a thrashing for making an assault on John S. Blunt, a white person.

John Carter and Sam Jones two rival negro cart men, were arraigned for indulging in a fight on Main street, opposite Gen. Winder’s office. They were each ordered 39 lashes.

John R. McCune was partially examined on the charge of causing Pat Kearney’s death by carelessly shooting his musket at some ducks on the basin.—The case was continued.
