From the Richmond Dispatch, 7/5/1862, p. 2, c. 4

Drowned. – Acting Coroner R. D. Sanxay was summoned yesterday to hold an inquest over the body of an unknown white man, who had been fished out of the canal opposite the Tredegar Iron Works. The deceased was entirely nude, and from clothing found on the banks it was evident he had met his death accidentally while bathing. As the Coroner could get no clue to the name of the party, he declined to hold an inquest. He had the remains decently interred.
